Colon Hydrotherapy
Colon hydrotherapy was a big part of my gut healing journey and is still something I do as often as possible to main a healthy balanced life.
If you haven’t heard of it before, it can be a little overwhelming but once you tried it you won’t believe what you have been missing out on.
What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon Hydrotherapy, also known as colonic, is when water is used to help empty waste from the colon. In the process, it can also hydrate the bowel and strengthen the natural contraction or movement of the gut.
Why get a colonic?
The primary function of the gut is to absorb food and remove waste. On a much deeper level, it’s linked to the health of all body systems, including the immune system and nervous system.
If the gut function is impaired, it can be felt in uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing ways - gas, bloating, pain, diarrhea or constipation. It can go unnoticed, presenting in what seems to be unrelated symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, weight, mental health, weak immune systems, insomnia, hormone disruptions, nutrient deficiencies, skin conditions, and so much more!
Our modern-day fast-paced, fast-food lives are causing digestion to slow down. Even if you eat well and manage stress, environmental toxins contributing to gut disruption are impossible to avoid. Impaired gut function leads to the accumulation of waste, causing unwanted symptoms and risk of chronic disease. Colonics help hydrate the colon, loosen up impacted waste and clear gas blockages. In simple terms - It’s better out than in - Colonics help achieve this.
What are the different types of Colon Hydrotherapy?
Enemas are also a form of Colon Hydrotherapy which I talk more about here. This is an easy practice to do at home however the liquid you take in during an enema doesn’t work as high up in the colon as what a colonic does. A colonic allows a constant flow of water in and out which helps to saturate impacted waste so it can make its way out.
There are many different types of colonics including gravity fed, machine, open system and closed system. The method that I like best is the Woods Gravity Method of colonics. It is gentle, natural and uses the least force.
The woods gravity method is a closed system that uses gravity-fed purified water to empty waste from the colon. There are no machines, just water positioned at the right height to allow it to naturally flow in and out of the colon.
I am excited to bring this method of colonics to Adelaide and will offer this from our new location in Goodwood - Gut Recovery Centre.
What happens during a colonic?
The Therapist inserts a small disposable speculum into the rectum. When ready, the Therapist will turn the body temperature filtered water on, which will gently flow into the rectum and flow back out through the waste tube. The Therapists will be with you during the session to explain what is happening and answer any questions. They may also massage your abdominal area to help loosen up impacted waste and gas if needed.
What can a colonic help with?
Colonics can help with:
Bloating
Gas
Constipation
Diarrhea
IBS
SIBO
Candida overgrowth
Parasites
Worms
Detoxification
In some cases, colonics can provide relief from symptoms quickly however in most cases multiple colonics are needed to feel the full benefits. It is also important to be working on addressing the underlying cause of your digestive issues so symptoms don’t keep reoccurring.
Supporting digestion can have a flow on to other body systems including immune system, nervous system and skin health.
